Many thanks for Rachel and Joseph for inviting us to their civil union ceremony - they booked a hotel at the foot of Mount Ruapehu and we were able to spend some time the following day driving up the excitingly perilous Mountain Road to the bottom of the ski fields.

It all seemed fairly calm and pleasant until suddenly the tarmac and edges went away and were were going round hairpins above perilous drops. Excellent stuff. The photographs were taken on the way back down.
